Horseback riding in Australia has some wonderful advantages for a vacation. The land of “The Man from Snowy River” has strong riding traditions, friendly people, a vibrant cultural life, excellent food, miles of unpopulated beach and ideal terrain for riding in the hinterland. The exotic wildlife which includes kangaroos, wombats and koala bears is interesting to see. There are over 800 species of bird in Australia and many, like the huge, flightless emu, the cockatoo and the saucy kookaburra, are fascinating to watch. Colorful birds can be seen everywhere in the majestic trees while riding through the rain forests.

Though nearly as large as the US, Australia has less than a tenth of our population which leaves plenty of space for riding and there are many rights-of-way for horses in scenic areas. Without a doubt, Australia has some of the finest horses in the world for equestrian tours and riding is very popular with the Aussies. We have several options from which to choose, both a point-to-point ride and a stationary farm based stay. Both horseback adventures here are a wonderful way to get to know the country and its people.

Climate in Australia

This part of Australia is very temperate which allows for pleasant riding throughout most of the year. Remember that the seasons are reversed south of the equator, so the USA summer is Australia’s winter. Being close to the coast you will experience warm summer climates with some cool nights, some hot days and occasional rain showers. Long sleeved shirts are a good idea year around as protection against the sun. Sweaters or jackets may be needed during winter seasons.

The spring, autumn and winter months (March-October) are most pleasant for riding. Even during winter, day temperatures can be 45-60°F. Riding is not available in December or January as the temperature and humidity is high and can make riding uncomfortable.

  Average Temperature

85 °F » 45 °F

Australia Riding Vacation

Great Ride in the Sun Going back home to Australia is always a treat for me. This time I was lucky enough to combine visiting my family with a scouting trip to one of Australia’s most beautiful destinations- Noosa, Queensland which is on the east coast, north of Sydney. Although this was winter in Australia, the days were mild and I was comfortable in a t-shirt and jeans. The evenings were cool and crisp, allowing a welcome glass of wine to warm the senses just enough to bring your... Read more
