Rancho Puesta Del Sol

Overview

Only fifty miles north of Mexico City, this all inclusive ranch is surrounded by three waterfalls, and at an elevation of 7,500 ft, offers spectacular views and weather year-round. On this horseback riding vacation in Mexico you will discover unsurpassed scenery and riding in an area that has no fences. Experience warm hospitality in the heart of Mexico.

Enjoy a wide variety of rides in the many panoramic vistas of mountain ranges, historic haciendas and traditional villages of the area. Cross flowing rivers with tumbling waterfalls, see egrets and ducks roosting on tranquil lakes as the horses splash on the water’s edge. Ride through open big-sky country where you can walk, canter or gallop to your hearts content.

The ranch offers tastefully decorated Mexican-style courtyard rooms and “casitas”, each with luxurious private baths and first class amenities. Staff prepare gourmet meals, provide personalized service, and plan activities and excursions customized to your interests.

The finest local ingredients are used to create authentic Mexican cuisine. All meals are included with your stay and national alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks including coffee and tea are served with lunch and dinner.

Itinerary Summary

Airport pickup upon arrival and transfer to the ranch. Settle into your accommodations for the duration of your stay and get to know your fellow riders during dinner.

Depending on your length of stay you will have an opportunity to experience a variety of the rides listed below. You are always free to skip any of the rides and just relax at the ranch or participate in one of the optional excursions and activities (to be paid locally). A great deal of effort is made to ensure that whatever length your stay is, your experience leaves you with unforgettable memories. The rides are varied and provide you with an insight into the local area, giving you a flavor of the different terrain and landscapes of this beautiful part of Mexico.

Some of the many highlights are:

‘Xochitlan de Las Flores’
The village of the flowers, where the locals take pride in having the best garden. This ride goes along a canyon to the quaint village and its beautiful old church. Enjoy the many opportunities to canter or gallop in wide open space, a truly magnificent experience.

‘El Colorado’
This tiny village is closest to the ranch and you often stop there before or after lovely long gallops. As on most of the rides, it is usual to stop at a local village store. You are encouraged to buy a drink or snack, as this is a way of supporting the local communities, interacting with the locals and engaging in Mexican culture.

'San Miguel de las Piedras'
This picturesque little village set right into the hillside is about half a day's ride from the ranch. It's paths, paved with river stones, take you down into a beautiful valley.

'Los Organos'
Mexican countryside like you've seen in the movies, will be the backdrop for this ride. Cross old overgrown train rails hidden between cactus, to a place forgotten by time. The trail leads you down into a lush valley, along rivers, where wild horses roam. Visit the ‘Peregrinos Petrificados’ a big rock formation in the middle of nowhere. It is said that these are Pilgrims turned into stone because they did not want to leave this perfect paradise to finish their pilgrimage.

'Santa Maria Macua'
Cross the lake district and soak up its natural beauty. The panoramic views from Santa Maria Macua are breathtaking.

'Tandeje'
This old Hacienda built in 1685, can be seen on your journey along a cobbled stone path, which leads to an enchanted forest of old mammoth trees, heavy with Spanish moss and roots growing up between the rocks of a stream.

As an old-timer, trail rider and a business consultant by trade I am desperate: I can't think of any suggestions to improve this ride - everything about it is perfect, at least to my taste!
