Riding Icelandics through the lovely countryside of Vermont’s Green Mountains on the Sugarbush Tolt Trek is a very attractive prospect, especially for those who enjoy the smooth tolt of these well trained steeds. These stout-hearted, good natured, powerful, little horses deserve their fame in the horse world, making this a particularly enjoyable horseback riding tour in Vermont.
The Icelandic horses are ridden in equipment traditionally used in Iceland. The saddles are quality English saddles made for Icelandic Horses and are comfortable for the horses as well as the rider. Bridles have snaffle bits with drop nosebands. Saddle bags and water bottles are available.
You will be joined by different riders on other programs throughout your stay.
Sunday: Arrive at your inn anytime after 3:00 PM. Dinner on this night is not included, but the innkeepers will be very happy to help you make a restaurant selection. The inn has a hot tub, so don’t forget your bathing suit.
Monday: Enjoy a hearty New England breakfast before meeting at the Vermont Icelandic Horse Farm at 9:30 AM, dressed ready to ride. A short introduction to the Icelandic horses will be followed by the assignment of horses and a hands on education at the riding arena before heading off to practice what you have learned on the trail. Lunch is at the farm, then time to mount a new horse to continue your tolting education.
Tuesday: Today there are magnificent views of the ski areas with long stretches of tolting along the route. Lunch is at the farm followed by more riding through forests and neighboring farm lands. Back to the inn where you may explore the wonderful walking trails along the river or take a swim before dinner.
Wednesday: The journey continues via the “Enchanted Way”; wonderful terrain used by cross country skiers in winter. Or perhaps you will set off to explore Camel’s Hump State Forest in the area the locals call “Baird In the Bush”. After a final lunch at the farm, bid farewell to your new Icelandic friends before departure.
This itinerary is flexible. Changes may occur at the guides' discretion based on weather or other circumstances. Please note that other riders on different programs will likely be joining some of your rides.

During this last tolt weekend, the horses were absolutely amazing and the other riders were lovely. All in all, I had a wonderful two days on horseback and enjoyed the countryside. A simply terrific vacation. Thank you again for wonderful horses and caring leaders.
