Wildlife viewing from horseback has great advantages.
Vehicles are noisy and they usually have to stay on roads so that they can’t reach some of the most secluded places. If you are walking, you have to watch where you are putting your feet, but in the saddle you can look around all the time. On horseback it can be thrilling to gallop along with fast moving herds of giraffe, wildebeest or zebra and you share the experience with your equine companion. On horseback one can also have unusual experiences like discovering an ostrich nest far off the usual tourist path in places like Kenya’s Masai Mara. Or on the Kilimanjaro Ride in Tanzania you can often watch herds of elephant while sitting quietly on your horse.
In addition to game like grizzly bears, elk and moose one can often see wild mustangs around our Wyoming ranch and it is much easier to get close to them on horseback than any other way as they feel reassured by the presence of other horses.
Equitours can also assist with organizing non-riding extensions to complement the horseback experience for a full array of what a region has to offer, such as viewing tigers and rhinoceros in India, gorillas in Uganda or Galapagos wildlife in Ecuador.
