Domaine Des Garennes Ride

Overview

The Domaine des Garennes makes a fine central location to explore a charming region on horseback in France. A wonderful family or individual riding holiday option with comfortable rooms, warm hospitality, excellent food, squash and tennis courts and a swimming pool. Alternate full and half day rides go to such destinations as goose and trout farms.

This is a family farm set in an attractive region of oak forests and cultivated fields with many well known historical sites nearby, and is an exceptionally good value. Take advantage of the offer to join this horseback riding trip in France.

The friendly center consists of a large converted farmhouse and offers simple, comfortable accommodations in single and double rooms, with private bathrooms. There is a swimming pool, tennis court and squash court.

The abundant meals are taken family style.

    The horses are of mixed breed, French pleasure horses. You will ride the same horse during the week unless there is some reason to change. English style tack is used. A limited number of western saddles are available.

While there are no separate organized activities for non-riders, they are welcome to independently enjoy the region and accommodations.

Brive

Trip Itinerary

Please note that during the months of July and August there are only morning rides due to the heat.

Day 1

Transfer from Brive railway station at 6:00 pm to the riding center for dinner and overnight. Meet your hosts and the staff.

Day 2

Breakfast at 9 o’clock. Then spend a half hour getting acquainted with your horse, including feeding, grooming, picking hooves and tacking up. Have a short ride in the surrounding area, followed by lunch back at the center, a typical meal of the Perigord. Relax in the afternoon with a swim, tennis or nap.

Day 3

A full days ride to ‘Collettes House’. This very old house in the middle of nowhere is in the historic style of the region. Here you have lunch. Then ride through Saint Bonnet, a beautiful old village, and les Rusolles, a forest with ancient chestnut trees. Arrive at the centre for another wonderful meal.

Day 4

Half day ride over the ‘Causses de Gignac’, with a short rest at the windmill of Gignac. Afternoon free.

Day 5

Whole days ride to Laval, where lunch will be taken in a small local restaurant in the center of the village. Ride back over the mountains and through the forests to the centre.

Day 6

Half days ride to Ferriere and Chartrier, two little villages of the Limousin, with picturesque 16th and 17th century architecture.

Day 7

A full days ride to Ladornac. There you will eat in an ‘auberge de campagne’. After lunch there is a choice between a nap, or a visit to a very old church. Afterward ride back to les Garennes for good-bye celebrations and farewell dinner.

Day 8

After breakfast transfer to the Brive train station.
